the rollercoaster ride continues

it has been too long since my last post.  my apologies.  so let's pick up here and move on.  thanks for following us along on this journey and lending your support to my dad and our family.

instead of recapping everything that has happened in the last 2 weeks, i'll give you the highlights:

dad has had to temporarily hold off on his chemotherapy due to low platelets.  he had a platelet transfusion last week, and on tuesday, which went well.  he also gets dehydrated easily, and has to be re-hydrated at the infusion center at ucsd from time to time.  the radiation has continued, and leaves him very exhausted.

he is continuing to see small improvements in the mobility in his left arm and leg.  we are so encouraged by these tiny pieces of progress.  the doctor feels that the tumors must be shrinking in order to be recovering some movement.

dad only has 4 more radiation treatments to go!!!  on the last day of his radiation he will be allowed to ring a big brass bell that hangs on the wall in the waiting room.  we have been waiting for that day and are really excited for it be here.

thank you to everyone for your prayers, words of encouragement, and your loving concern.  our family has been blessed by you all in countless ways.

through all of these trials we continue to be reminded of our Heavenly Father's love for us.  He is aware of our every movement, and our every need.  He is blessing us and holding us up during this difficult time.

if you would like to, please feel free to leave a comment below.  my parents love reading your notes of encouragement.

Dear Uncle Rick-

I have meant to write you many a note now. Sorry for not writing until now. My mom updates me on you and your progress every time I talk with her on the phone. She thinks so highly of you and has always told us what a great brother you were and are. She really admires you and had a wonderfully time visiting a couple weeks ago.

I have such great memories of spending time with your family when we came to visit during the summers. I was always thrilled when I heard you guys were coming to the beach with us.

I have always felt that you are spiritual GIANT (Literally :) and I have looked to you as an example. You have always been so welcoming and have such a warm and inviting spirit. I love these qualities about you, Aunt Shelley, and your family. If I had to describe you in one word from the memories I have, it would be kind.

You are in our prayers and thoughts. We are hoping to com to CA this summer...so we will see you then!
We love you!

Dear Bro. Holladay,

I think about where my life is now and it has progressed to this point because of your trust in calling me to serve as a seminary teacher almost 10 years ago. I remember the moments leading up to that calling and the fear and excitement to serve as a seminary teacher. I loved each moment of my 8 years and all that I gained and basically the answer to my prayers almost 35 years ago in my desire to teach seminary someday. Did you know you helped in fulfilling a prayer made way back than? I have been inspired by you, your sweet Shelley and Alex (who challenged me probably more than any other student I had). You and your family continue to be in my and my family's prayers regularly. I send my love. - Ellen Garrett

Brother Holladay,

You are an incredible testament to the power of a converted soul who has given his life over to Christ. The strength of your testimony is evident in so many aspects of your life, as you have shown and continue to show incredible resilience, fortitude, faithfulness and trust in the Lord throughout your life. What a blessing you are and have been to all those around you who have had the privilege of witnessing your humility and indomitable spirit and attitude.

Thank you for your strength of character and witty humor, and for all of the service you have rendered for the Lord.

Heavenly Father loves you and your family, and there are so many people who love you that are praying for you. May He bless and keep you.
